Bolt Report 5 August 2024

Interview with Andrew Bolt on the Bolt report 5 August 2024, about the on going closure of an iconic NSW bushwalking experience – the Mt Warning Summit Track. How long can this nonsense go on for?

    Hello Mark
This morning, a friend passed on a Quadrant article written by you: “Locked out of our National Parks”. What you describe in that excellent article is mirrored by my recent experience of the Blue Mountains. We have a Council that has recently put up a “Destination Management Plan” that uses vague but flowery appeals to assert Indigenous hegemony over all planning and official assent.

The Council has consulted in an extraordinarily narrow manner with a few favoured organisations. One at the centre’s main authority appears to be the fact it is back by the IUCN.

The Blue Mountains has achieved ECO destination status which means it has been endorsed by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. A quick look at this outfit reveals the Rainforest Alliance and a broad range of United Nations bodies whose links to the mountains are tenuous at best.

I attended a recent Council meeting with plans to speak against the plan to be told that an Indigenous resident had not been consulted so the matter had to be removed from the agenda.

My reason for writing is we seem to be going down a dark road here. One that will not be aided by the failure of Liberal candidates to submit the necessary forms to allow them to compete in the upcoming election. While noteworthy, in truth the Liberals just run to the same agenda and are no slower in raising their hands in support of any mad initiative.

I am merely looking to identify friends who can add the matters I have described here to their awareness and raise any related concerns when an appropriate moment arises.

    Thanks for your work
